What A Pair: Yoga and Chiropractic Care!

Published June 25th, 2019 by Dr. Markson

Both chiropractic care and yoga have become more and more popular over the last several years, and for good reason! Both offer a number of benefits for both your body and mind. Surprisingly enough, both have a lot in common. To make things even sweeter, when yoga is done in conjunction with chiropractic care, you can enjoy added reward, particularly for those suffering from an injury.

When done the right way, yoga can reduce blood sugar levels and stress, increase endurance, balance, and flexibility, and strengthen your muscles and joints. Chiropractic care corrects misalignments, promotes better joint mobility, and improves the health of the nervous system, and that’s just the start!

Yoga is centered on strengthening ligaments and joints.

For many exercises, we target major muscle groups, which leaves the small ligaments and joints untouched and weak. Yoga, on the other hand, focuses on all muscles in the body — even the little guys you didn’t know you had! With increased strength in those smaller muscles, your larger muscles work less and your body is more balanced. This can help prevent injury and even improve recovery time for those already injured. Yoga promotes strength all throughout the body, making your body better able to receive chiropractic care. When the body is strong, it is better able to respond to chiropractic care than a stiff, sore, and uneven body.

Yoga promotes healing.

Yoga exercises are aimed to elongate and stretch the body, which releases built up stress and tension. Practicing yoga before chiropractic care helps your muscles warm-up and clears your mind. That means us chiropractors are able to get straight to work and treat your issues as you will already be relaxed upon arrival. In short, yoga helps your body heal.

Yoga, like chiropractic care, increases mobility and range of motion.

If you are suffering from a specific deep rooted condition or from a major injury, chiropractic care may require more time to “prep” your body before treating the injury or solving the issue. This can be frustrating for patients who want their problem solved immediately. With that being said, yoga can increase flexibility and range of motion, which saves work for the chiropractor. Both yoga and chiropractic care are beneficial for those suffering from joint, hip, back, or neck pain. The more effort you put in outside of the chiropractor’s office, the more in-depth work we can do during your visit.

Yoga and chiropractic care help prevent future injury.

Both chiropractic treatment and yoga keep the body in proper alignment, relieve and stretch tense muscles, promote balance, and ensure the joints are operating as they should. All of these factors create a body that is less susceptible to future injury. When both are made a part of your healthcare routine, you will find results are better than when doing either alone.
