Stretch for a Healthy Spine

Published May 26th, 2020 by Dr. Markson

As your local Ft. Lauderdale/Miami chiropractor, we think chiropractic is one of the best things you can do for your body. At Markson Chiropractic, we are committed to more than the health of your spine – we want to help improve your health overall. One way to do this is by stretching regularly, which pairs perfectly with chiropractic care. Here are a few reasons why stretching is good for the health of your body and spine.

Pain Relief

Many of our patients first see us to find pain relief. Part of chiropractic adjustments includes removing restrictions from the vertebrae of the spine, which relieves pain in the body and eases tension. A great way to further promote this relief is through stretching. As you stretch the muscles and ligaments in your body, it can alleviate pent up tension and stiffness.  Stretching is also great for targeting pain in the back of the legs, lower back, and other large muscle groups. When you combine stretching with chiropractic care, the results can be magnified, leaving you feeling great!

Stability

Perhaps one of our most important jobs as your chiropractor is to create and maintain stability in the body. Regular chiropractic adjustments are a step in the right direction and stretching will only increase the benefits. Stretching enhances and elongates muscle function. When you regularly stretch, you may find that each muscle group is better able to keep your body balanced and strong. If you are looking for another way to boost your health, start a stretching routine along with your regular chiropractic adjustments to keep your treatment balanced. For tips on what stretches will be best for you, just ask during your next adjustment!

Movement

Although Florida is opening back up during this time of coronavirus, many of us fell into habits of living pretty sedentary lifestyles. We spend plenty of time sitting whether it’s working at a desk, in front of the TV, or looking down at our cell phones. Staying in these positions for too long can cause an increase in stiffness and immobility, which we are treating patients for now more than ever. Stretching can help work out that stiffness and will leave your body more flexible and mobile. If you find that you are sitting more than usual lately, add stretching along with your regular chiropractic adjustments to negate some of those side effects and help maintain great health.
