Fighting Colds with Chiropractic

Published November 27th, 2018 by Dr. Markson

The holiday season is upon us, and that means we’ll be spending some of our time either avoiding or fighting the cold and flu. Nobody likes to be sick, but willpower alone won’t keep the germs away. Most of us have a few tricks to keep sickness at bay, but we’ve put together a few tips as a reminder.

Maintain A Healthy Diet

Maintaining a healthy diet can be particularly challenging during the holidays, but keeping your diet in check can do a lot to help you avoid illness. Along with having generally healthy eating habits, it can also be beneficial to increase the amount of garlic and Vitamin C in your diet. Vitamin C is one of the most famous immune system boosting vitamins, with big sources being leafy greens, tomatoes, and oranges. Garlic is thought to be a natural antifungal and antibiotic. Adding this spice to your dishes can give your immune system a small boost and help it fight off germs before they even get you sick.

Keep Your Hands Clean

This one might seem like a no brainer, but it often goes forgotten. Not only should you wash your hands after coughing or sneezing and before eating, you should also wash your hands after touching commonly used items like door knobs or the copy machine. If washing your hands that many times a day isn’t possible, purchase a small hand-held size bottle of hand sanitizer to keep those germs away.

Regular Chiropractic Care

Many people are surprised to hear that chiropractic care can do more than treat your back pain. It is thought that regular chiropractic adjustments can boost the immune system by maintaining a properly aligned central nervous system. When the spine is aligned as it should be, the body is able to work more efficiently, which means it is better able to keep you well. As chiropractors, we promote other preventative behaviors like a healthy diet and exercise. When done in conjunction with chiropractic care, you may find just the immune system boost you are looking for.
