The Importance of Clean Eating

Published June 3rd, 2015 by Dr. Tokar

Recently Jenn and I did a 10 day Standard Process cleanse. Most people think that there's little to no food allowed when cleansing, but that is not the case with this cleanse.

Standard Process offers a 10 and 21 day cleanse to detoxify the body (especially the liver & kidneys, filtering organs) and reset the body by consuming a plethora of healthy, nutritious fruits and veggies. In addition to eating lots of produce, fiber supplements and cleanse supplements are taken for the first 7 days as well as 2-3 protein shakes per day (there are whey protein and non-dairy options). For the last three days, SP greens supplements are taken instead of cleanse supplements and organic meat or wild fish can be added back into the diet.

This cleanse wasn't meant as a quick fix to lose weight. Weight will come off naturally as the body rids itself of toxins that have built up from all the processed foods, alcohol, caffeine, and junk we tend to eat. This challenge encourages you to continue with healthy eating after the cleanse is officially complete. Jenn and I are both feeling great since finishing the cleanse and continue to support each other, making better decisions about the food (fuel) we eat instead of garbage that can make your body feel sluggish and tired.

The key to living a healthy life is finding balance! If you eliminate everything you love,  you will feel deprived! If you treat yourself from time to time, you won't feel guilty, but most of all the benefit of eating healthy will keep you full of energy and feeling great. Add in regular exercise 3-4 times per week, whether it be yoga, walking, running, Pilates, or weight training and your body will truly thank you as it begins to get stronger and stronger!! Don't forget to drink lots of water to stay hydrated and flush out toxins!
