How Chiropractic Care Can Help With Allergies

Published May 20th, 2015 by Dr. Markson

Spring has sprung and allergy season is officially upon us. Seasonal allergies are symptoms that your body is not adapting readily and/or appropriately to its external environment. Exposure to pollen, dust, pet dander, cut grass, or mold can exacerbate your allergies and leave you feeling miserable.

It's pretty simple. Your nervous system functions better with a well-adjusted spine, and regular chiropractic will help with your allergy symptoms. However, here are a few more things you can do to alleviate allergy symptoms.

  1. Drink Lots of Water: When your body is dehydrated your brain signals the production of histamine. This chemical leads to inflamed sinuses, throat, and lungs. More water will lead to less histamine which will lead to less inflammation.

  2. Clean up: Throughout the day you come into contact with allergens. They get stuck in your hair, your skin, and your clothes. As soon as you get home from work or school, or even if you've just been outside for a bit, hop in the shower to rinse off.

  3. Modify What You Eat: Avoid foods like bread, pastas, rice, and dairy that are pro-inflammatory. Allergies or not, you should be eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, but this can also help reduce your allergy symptoms. Colorful fruits and veggies are high in antioxidants which help to prevent the release of histamine.

As I mentioned above, the best way to help yourself this allergy season it to get adjusted regularly. The nervous system controls how you adapt to your external environment so make sure to schedule regular visits to keep your spine subluxation free.
