The Importance of Self-Care

Published February 8th, 2022 by Dr. Daner

In the spirit of the new year, new beginnings, and hopefully a brighter future than the last two years, today we want to talk about the importance of self-care. Most people do not realize how important it is to do this, as it directly affects our ability to take care of everything and everyone else in life.

Your body is the most important thing you have in this world, and you only get one of them. For this reason alone, it is vitally important to make sure you do everything you can to maintain and care for it. One of the easiest ways to do this is to make sure your musculoskeletal system is in as good of shape as it can be. It becomes more and more important to maintain flexibility and muscle tone as we get older. If you can do this, then everything else will fall into place! Also, it is amazing what being in good physical shape can do for your mental state. Everything goes together. There are five components that I will recommend in this blog to help you care for yourself physically.

Stretch, Exercise, and Yoga

The first thing I recommend to anyone trying to improve themselves is incorporating a stretching regimen into their EVERYDAY life. It has to become a habit. Once it becomes a habit, it is easy. But it is a cumulative process, so one has to be consistent. Along with stretching every day, it is essential to get some physical activity/workout at least three times per week, preferably more. This goes hand in hand with stretching, as does our next component, yoga. Most people associate this with stretching, but it is so much more. A whole mind/body connection takes your health to another level. The first three components have been active, meaning you are putting in the work to get yourself healthy.

Massage Therapy and Chiropractic Adjustments

In the spirit of taking care of yourself, it is vitally important to incorporate massage therapy into your self-care routine. An hour massage/deep tissue treatment every other week or so will go a long way in getting your body where it needs to be. Lastly, and most apparent, chiropractic adjustment will help restore your nervous system function and send you on the path to having overall health and wellness and being the best version of you that you can be!

Just remember, it is ok to be a little selfish sometimes; we have to take care of our own health and wellness first. However, incorporating these five components of self-care into your daily routine will change your life for the better — physically and mentally.
