Celebrate Earth Day with Outdoor Activities

Published April 21st, 2021 by Dr. Hoder

Earth Day is here and you may be thinking — what does that have to do with chiropractic? Well, with our tips, you can learn to nurture your body through nature. Here’s how you can improve your health with outdoor activities.

Earth Day Resolutions

Earth Day is a great time to take steps to not only improve your health but also the environment. At Markson Chiropractic, we encourage you to take steps that improve your life on every level, including the planet. Even minor changes like recycling a type of material you don’t currently recycle or planting a tree can have lasting benefits.

Green Exercise

Earth Day is also the perfect time to start incorporating more green exercise into your routine. Green exercise is any type of physical activity or exercise that takes place in the great outdoors including:

  • Biking

  • Hiking

  • Swimming

  • Gardening

  • Kayaking

  • Running

  • Sailing

  • And more!

Green exercise can improve physical and mental health in many ways. Additionally, interacting with nature on a regular basis has been shown to improve mental health by reducing levels of anxiety, stress, and even improving symptoms of depression.

Benefits of Outdoor Exercise

The benefits of outdoor exercise, when you’re surrounded by nature, surpass those of indoor activities (assuming the climate is right!). While both exercise and the outdoors strengthens the body and lift spirits, combining the two increases happiness and self-esteem.

Health benefits include:

  • Reduced stress

  • Restored mental fatigue

  • Mood improvement

  • Increased self-esteem
