5 Examples of Athletes Benefiting from Chiropractic

Published February 10th, 2015 by Markson Chiropractic And Medical

Chiropractic is common for athletes and many chiropractors will recommend an adjustment before, during, and after any athletic performance. Check out a few examples of how chiropractic has benefited athletes:

1. Chiropractic in the NFL

It’s no secret that football players are constantly getting injured. Football players who avoid serious injury still suffer from stiffness and soreness. Most NFL teams have one or two chiropractors on staff to adjust their players. Most of these athletes, like former NFL defensive end, Michael Strahan, recognize the importance of chiropractic care and recommend that everyone seek out chiropractic treatment as well.

2. Chiropractic for Sports Hernia

Up to 20% of all sports-related injuries involve lower abdomen or groin pain. This pain is commonly referred to as a sports hernia.  A study on soccer players suffering from sports hernia showed that the symptoms had greatly reduced after 8 weeks of chiropractic care and rehabilitation exercises to improve flexibility.

3. Chiropractic to Relieve Tennis Elbow

50% of tennis players suffer from tennis elbow. Chiropractors with a specialty in treating athletes, can perform a specific adjustment that has proven effective for the discomfort associated with tennis elbow.

4. Chiropractic for Hockey Players

Like football, hockey is a full-contact sport and injuries are common. Chiropractic has been used to reduce the pain cause from recurrent shoulder instability which is common in hockey players. In 2011, Sidney Crosby, captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins, suffered two back-to-back head injuries. He was unable to play hockey without his symptoms returning. After receiving regular chiropractic treatment, Crosby was finally able to return to the ice with his A-game.

5. Chiropractic for Baseball Players

Baseball players fast-movements often result in hamstring pulls, neck and back pain, and rotator cuff injuries. Studies show that chiropractic care helps prevent hamstring and other lower limb injuries in baseball players.

All types of athletes recognize the benefits of chiropractic care, but you don't have to be an athlete to receive chiropractic care! Routine chiropractic is effective for all types of symptoms and patients.
