The Importance of Chiropractic Care for Runners

Published May 31st, 2022 by Dr. Daner

Summer is coming up, which means warmer temperatures in South Florida. Despite these warmer temperatures, many runners love this time of year. It can be nice to run early in the morning and as the sun goes down during the summer. There are also the “hardcore runners” who like to run during the day in the extreme heat (we have a patient in our office who only likes running in temperatures OVER 90 degrees). Running outdoors puts an enormous amount of stress/wear and tear on nearly every part of the body, mainly the legs and the spine. Chiropractic can play a huge role in keeping runners performing at the highest level possible.

Chiropractic Can Prevent Running Injuries

It is vital that runners get their spines and extremities checked by a chiropractor for a couple of reasons. Primarily, we as chiropractors want to make sure that the legs and spine move as they should, with the appropriate motion. This includes gait and posture analysis, as poor posture or technique will eventually lead to injuries and avoidable wear and tear. I always use the analogy of misaligned tires on a car, as prolonged driving like this will lead to other problems for the automobile. Chiropractic care helps prevent injuries and ensures peak performance. Again, like a car, it will keep one’s body “fine-tuned and running on all cylinders.” For serious/long-distance runners, there will always be “little bumps and bruises” from the intensity of the workouts. Chiropractic will allow for quicker recovery (as we’ve discussed in the past with other types of athletes) so they can continue their training regimen without breaks for minor injuries.

Maintain Optimal Performance With Markson Chiropractic

Chiropractic care is much like an auto mechanic for serious athletes to make it simple. Just as one would take their high-performance sports car for tune-ups a little more than the average driver, runners need to use chiropractic care as this “tune-up” to prevent injuries and maintain optimal performance. What are you waiting for? Schedule your tune-up today with your local South Florida Chiropractor!
