Workout Tips to Help You Stay Active

Published October 4th, 2022 by Dr. Hoder

A lack of fitness in your life can add stress to the mind and body. An overly sedentary lifestyle can leave you feeling in a rut, reduce your energy and motivation, and increase your risk of negative health issues like back and neck pain. These workout tips can help you stay active, motivated, and healthy

Build a Comprehensive Fitness Routine

Fitness isn’t just about getting into the gym or hitting the road for a run a certain number of times a week. It’s an all-encompassing process that reflects the way you live outside of working out. If you plan to stay active, you need to take care of yourself on all fronts, including regularly getting a full night’s sleep, preparing and eating healthy meals, and sitting with proper posture during the workday. It all adds up.

Bring a Friend Along

Many people have a hard time staying accountable when it comes to exercise and fitness. That’s where having a friend with goals of their own comes in handy. If you establish a plan with an “accountability buddy,” you can keep track of one another’s goals and progress and lift each other up when you succeed. You can lift weights with your friend from work or just carpool to the gym with your neighbor—if it helps you stay active, it’s worth doing.

Reward (and Forgive) Yourself

Even when you’re consistent about your workout routine, lapses will happen. Life can catch up to you and make it hard to find time to stay on task and on goal. When those times happen, be kind to yourself and remind yourself of the progress you’ve made. So long as you get back on the horse, it’s fine to take the occasional week off.

Taking a week off doesn’t even have to be a matter of being too busy. Soreness and fatigue can add up, so give yourself the occasional clean break to take time off and focus on other things. As long as you maintain a healthy diet, sleep schedule, and other healthy habits, you’re still tracking toward better wellness. And don’t be afraid of the occasional cheat meal. You can eat healthily and stay fit even with the occasional piece of birthday cake.
