Proactive vs. Reactive Health Care

Published November 11th, 2015 by Dr. Tokar

Our society is used to quick fixes. There's a pill for this ache or a shot for that pain. We are bombarded with an exorbitant amount of pharmaceutical ads on television, online and in print every day. With such a reactive attitude, it is difficult to conceive the idea that sometimes the choices you make can directly affect your health and well-being. One of my favorite pieces of advice Dr. Hoder describes to so many of his patients is that you're health is not permanent, it's a sliding scale and the choices you make every day lead you towards or away from health.

When it comes to chiropractic care, let's be honest. The majority of our new patients end up in our office for some sort of pain or symptom. Only a select few actually come in for wellness care to "just be healthy." Interestingly enough, more and more people are understanding the many positive benefits of continuing to care for their spine even when it isn't hurting. It is our job as doctors of chiropractic to fully evaluate you, take x-rays if warranted and then do our due diligence to fully review the findings of your exam and X-rays.

When you return for your report of findings you will not only learn about what your spine looks like, but how long it took to get that way, how long it may take to heal, how the spine and nervous system affect your overall health and well-being, and what steps you can take to have an active role in your health.

If you don't have regular maintenance on your car, it will start to break down . If you don't brush & floss your teeth and get regular cleanings, they will begin to decay. If you don't stay hydrated and eat well, you will feel terrible, gain weight, and have a whole array of health problems. Why would your spine not be included in that important list of things to take care of? Just because you don't see your spine every day doesn't mean it isn't important!

The great thing about chiropractic care is that it works to help you get out of pain naturally and stay out of pain even when you're feeling good. You will always have physical, chemical and emotional stresses bombarding your body... Chiropractic is a safe, natural and effective way to fight back against those stresses and feel great!

So, you have the decision to be reactive about your health... Addressing your problems only when you have symptoms, and constantly chasing the "quick fix" or... being proactive and having a healthy spine and nervous system, which equals a vibrant, higher quality of life!

Which path do you choose?
