What You Need to Know About Stomach Sleeping

Published January 20th, 2016 by Dr. Hoder

Sleep is that sacred time where our bodies rest and reset. As I'm sure you all know it is super important for our mental and physical health for us to get the proper amount of rest. But what many of us don't think about is resting in a position that is healthy and helpful for our spine.

In the moment, it can feel comfortable to sleep on your stomach and turn your head to the right or the left and rest it on your pillow. This position requires one side of your cervical muscles to work harder than the other. Does that sound restful to you?

Sleeping in this position night after night can eventually lead to headaches and neck pain. When you fall asleep on your stomach you're basically asking for back and neck problems.

If you haven't already visited a chiropractor, I recommend you do so immediately! I would also recommend that you stop sleeping on your stomach starting tonight! Stay tuned for my next blog post to see how to stop sleeping on your stomach!
