Headache and Migraine Relief through Chiropractic

Published February 3rd, 2016 by Dr. Tokar

When I was 15 years old I suffered from debilitating headaches for over a year. In that time I would take Tylenol, have to sit out from my favorite after school activities and usually get into a dark room and go to sleep early. This type of life altering problem became frustrating to me because I hated taking medicine all the time and I didn't know what was wrong with me. After numerous medical tests and blood work, my official diagnosis was "nothing is wrong with you, it's hormonal, keep taking Tylenol."

I was fed up but didn't know what else to do. Thankfully I was introduced to chiropractic and my parents were on board to let me try to find an answer to my terrible headaches. After a detailed evaluation, X-rays and a thorough explanation of what was going on with me based off of my exam and X-ray findings, I began my recommended treatment of chiropractic care 3 times per week. Within 4-5 weeks of consistent Chiro care I started noticing a difference in my headaches... They weren't coming as frequently and when they did, weren't as severe.

A light bulb went off and I felt like the wool had been pulled off my eyes. After all of those medical tests, the medical doctors were focusing on the wrong things. My chiropractor located the cause of my headaches and came up with a successful solution to help me regain my health, and essentially my life again.

Of course there are other factors that may contribute to someone having headaches or migraines: family history, other health conditions, intake of artificial sweeteners or sensitivity to artificial preservatives, lack of sleep, dehydration, poor posture, extended screen time, using the wrong pillow, stomach sleeping... The list goes on. Making improvements in some of these areas, when possible, can also improve the chance of your headaches or migraines dissipating or not coming as frequently or severely.

Chiropractic care can be the missing key in many cases because even after improving other areas of your life, if your nervous system isn't communicating properly, headaches & migraines can be a common symptom. Your body will need time to adapt to the changes your chiropractor makes, so don't expect a miracle over night. Make sure to follow their recommendations, stay hydrated, and of course, ask questions so you can feel informed and empowered to improve your health in a natural way!  Your body heals from the inside out, and the healing process takes time! If you or someone you know is suffering from headaches or migraines, please have them call our office for a consultation with one of the doctors- you won't regret it!
