The PowerPlate My5's Advanced Vibration Technology uses the body's natural response to vibrations to stimulate muscle strength, circulation and performance. The Power-Plate works by creating vibrations, or oscillations, that cause instability throughout the body. The body then stabilizes itself, unconsciously using the muscular system in order to stay balanced in reaction to these vibrations. This constant muscle action is what makes training with the Power-Plate so effective.

This type of training – Acceleration Training – was discovered in the former Soviet Union. Astronauts who were faced with considerable loss of muscle strength and bone density after their time in space appeared to greatly benefit from this training method. Scientists studied many effects associated with Acceleration Training during the 1970’s, where they noted an increase in muscular strength, flexibility, bone density, circulation and recuperative power, to name a few. However, this new form of training was unknown in Western Europe until after the fall of the Iron Curtain, when the Dutch Olympic trainier Guus van der Meer introduced the technology, resulting in the development of the Power-Plate.
